Advertising 

Advertising available on our main page. We have very strict requirements on what will be allowed. We will not allow any annoying ads or ads that are in poor taste. The company must be reputable and we do monitor the quality of the products and services advertised. The ad must be honest and not misleading. It can contain text or graphics. The format is entirely up to the advertiser, but must be approved before it will be posted. We strongly prefer ads that are related to Open Dental and that are relevant to our users. We will always give preference to those types of companies.

Terms

All ads are for one calendar month, starting on the first of the month. Any company who advertises may do so for a single month, or may go on a month-to-month plan. On any given month, there is a chance that we may decide to change the terms, the fees, or the sizes. We will make every effort to let our advertisers know about any such changes well in advance, and we will always give them the benefit of the doubt if we can not contact them before the deadline.

The current introductory fee is $10 for a 180 x 130 pixel size. The grid below shows how an ad that size would fit.

Future prices depend entirely on demand. You could probably expect prices to increase slowly but steadily.

User Base

Open Dental has approximately 2000 total users, counting users that we don't directly support. Many of our current users visit our website to get the latest news and to read the user manual. But we also get a wide variety of hits from people looking for a new product. Much of this traffic is from dental offices, but we also get a lot from other companies that provide services to dental offices. For instance, we tend to get a lot of resellers who are doing research on behalf of their customers who are dental offices. When designing your ad, please keep your audience in mind. We prefer that you primarily target dental offices, but you may also target related industries. We will not be tracking any kind of clickthrough rates for now.

Content

You may submit ads in HTML, or text. Or, you may submit an image and a link. The image would fill the allowed space, and when the user clicks on it, it would take them to the link you specify. No animations are allowed. All images must be static. This restriction may be eased in the future on some pages, but is likely to remain in place for ads on our main page. Also, please make the ad look professional, or there is a possiblility that it will be rejected.

Categories

We are still working on the categories that are displayed above the advertising on the main page. Each category will be a page dedicated to that topic with links to companies that our users may find useful. These links will generally be unpaid, but there will also be a prominent section at the top of each page available for a variety of ads. We hope to expand our offerings over time and make available more different kinds of advertising that may be appropriate for your company.
