To enable EHR features, see Initial EHR Setup.
To setup options for patient data, in the Main Menu, click Setup, EHR.
Setup menu: If using Open Dental Drug-Drug and Drug-Allergy Interaction Checks, select whether to show low-significance alerts. High significance alerts always show.
ICD-9s: ICD-9 codes and descriptions.
Allergies: Maintain a list allergies that can be attached to patients. Every patient should have an allergy value assigned.
Formularies: Formulary setup was removed from Open Dental in version 13.2. Instead, use Electronic Prescriptions (eRx) - Comprehensive version to meet formulary requirements.
Vaccine Def: Dental offices do not give vaccines, so they should choose another measure or apply for the EHR exclusion. Drug Manufacturers and Drug Units only apply to vaccines, so can also be ignored.
Inbound E-mail: This option was only included for certification. It is not usable because e-mail is not a secure method of sending or receiving patient information.
Educational Resources: Define educational resources that will be triggered for patients based on specific conditions.
Quarterly Keys: Enter the EHR quarterly keys supplied by technical support.
Emergency Now: Turn on/off temporary emergency access.
Once setup options are defined, see Using EHR to enter patient data.
