Below are some frequently asked questions about Open Dental eServices.

How much does each eService cost?

How do I start using eServices?

  1. Install the eConnector. See eConnector Setup, or call support to do this for you.
    • All eServices hosted by Open Dental use the eConnector; it is typically installed on the server and acts as a gateway of communication between your computer and our secure servers. Important: Your server will need to remain on at all times because the communication between our secure servers and your office relies on the Open Dental service. If the server is turned off, it disconnects our ability to communicate until it is turned back on.
  2. Sign up for the service. In version 17.1 and greater, use the Sign Up Portal. For all other versions, contact Open Dental.
  3. Refer to the setup steps for each service for the next steps.

Do I have a compatible setup?
See Computer Requirements. At this time, the eConnector is not compatible with Linux or Mac.

Do I need an IT Professional?
An IT professional is optional when installing the eConnector.

What do I need to do when I update Open Dental versions?
Always update Open Dental versions from the computer that hosts the eConnector. Stop the service before you update. See Stop a Service. If you forget to stop the service, see eServices Troubleshooting.
