Kiosk The kiosk allows patients to fill out Patient Forms (Registration Forms, HIPAA, financial consent, etc) and Medical History Forms at a computer in the dental office. When the kiosk is launched, the patient will be presented with a preselected list of Sheets.
The first sheet in the list will be presented for editing and signing. Then the subsequent sheets will be presented. The patient can cancel at any point to return to the list above. They can then double click to edit or revise the sheets in any order. When done with all sheets, the patient clicks the Done button. The kiosk can be lauched in two different modes. The simplest is to launch it from the bottom of the Patient Forms window. Alternatively, the kiosk may be controlled remotely by the Kiosk Manager, described further down. In either case, the window that the patient sees covers the entire screen and does not allow access to the main program. It also covers all the ordinary Windows features like the taskbar. A skilled user would be able to forcefully shut down Open Dental on that workstation, but they could never gain access to the rest of the program. Windows security could limit their access to other programs. The kiosk window also does not have an X at the upper right to close it. Instead, there is a hidden button at the lower right of the window. When the staff clicks this button, they will be asked for a password in order to close the window. The password is set from inside the Kiosk Manager window shown below. Kiosk Manager From the receptionist's computer, select Main Menu, Tools, Kiosk Manager
Once opened, the kiosk manager can be left open, and Open Dental will still be usable without closing it. The manager can also be run on multiple computers if you wish. Now, on the computer where the patients will be filling out the forms, select Main Menu, Tools, Kiosk. The kiosk will also show in the list above. Remember that even new patients will already at least have their name in the system. So select the patient in Open Dental, probably by clicking once on their appointment. Then, go to the kiosk manager, highlight the kiosk where the patient will be filling out forms, and click the Load Patient button. After a few moments, the patient will see the first form on their screen. Once the patient clicks the Done button, their kiosk will clear itself to the starting screen and the patient will no longer show in the manager as being active at that kiosk. The receptionist can then begin the import process as described on the Patient Forms page. If you accidentally load the wrong patient, click on that row and use the Clear Patient button. While the patient is filling out forms, no staff member will have access to the patient's Patient Edit screen. The Delete button is used to remove a computer from the list when it is clear that a kiosk is not actually running on that computer.
